Horse logging can be an efficient and environmentally sensitive way to extract timber. George Newton will be at the Rusland Show on Saturday 20 August with his Dales ponies demonstrating their skill in the woods opposite the showground. George will also be talking about his journey to become a horse logger, why it can make sense to use horses to manage woodland, and why woodlands need looking after. .
Rusland Horizons is one of the first community-led Landscape Partnership Schemes to be funded by Heritage Lottery Fund.
Between 2016 – 2019 we plan to carry out a range of projects that will involve the local community in recording, restoring, managing and celebrating the heritage, wildlife and wooded landscape of this wonderful part of South Lakeland.
The great news is that we have been successful with our Heritage Lottery Bid and are now embarking on delivering on our fifteen projects.
